Texas Man Who Shot and Killed Woman to Be Executed by Lethal Injection

· Telemundo McAllen (KTLM)

TEXAS — A Texas man who shot and killed a convenience store employee is set to be executed by lethal injection this Wednesday, marking the thirtieth execution of the year in the country. Jamaal Howard, 46, was convicted of capital murder for the 2000 death of 42-year-old Vickie Swartout, who was shot in the chest. He is scheduled to receive a lethal dose of pentobarbital, in the first execution scheduled in the United States since Tennessee's failed attempt to execute Christa Pike last week. Pike's attorneys reported on Tuesday that she was conscious and speaking while receiving treatment in a hospital. Texas has executed six people so far this year, with two more executions scheduled after Howard's.
