Plain-language summary of what we collect and what we don't.

We use PostHog Cloud for anonymous analytics. PostHog records pageviews and outbound clicks (when you click through to a source publisher), tagged with non-identifying attributes like region (e.g. "mcallen") and language. PostHog uses cookies to recognize repeat visits within a short window; the cookies do not contain your name, email, or any other personal identifier.

What we collect

Our hosting provider (Microsoft Azure) records standard web request logs — IP address, user agent, request path — for operational and security purposes. We do not link those logs to individual users.

Newsletter signups

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and the language you signed up in (English or Spanish). We use those two pieces of information for one purpose only: to send you the newsletter. We do not sell, rent, or share your email with anyone.

The newsletter is sent through Beehiiv, an email-publishing service that stores subscriber lists on our behalf. Beehiiv records standard email-engagement signals — whether an issue was opened, which links were clicked. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every issue, and your address is removed from the active list immediately.

What we don’t do

Source publisher links

When you click a story, you leave this site and land on the source publisher’s page. Their privacy practices apply once you are there.

Bookmarks & preferences

Bookmarks, theme, and density settings live in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device and we never read them. Clearing site data resets them.

Who runs this site

Cerca News is operated as a sole proprietorship based in McAllen, Texas. For privacy questions, removal requests, or anything else, email us using the link in the footer.

Changes

If our practices change, this page will be updated and the changes called out at the top.
