Plain-language terms for using this site and the newsletter.

By using Cerca News — visiting the site, subscribing to the newsletter, or using any feature offered here — you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

What this site is

Cerca News is a curated index of news for McAllen, Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley. We aggregate stories from public RSS feeds and the GDELT 2.0 DOC API, then translate and classify them with AI so bilingual readers can scan local news in either English or Spanish. Every article links back to the original publisher; we do not host or republish their work.

Use of the site

Newsletter

The newsletter is a free, opt-in summary of recent stories. By subscribing, you confirm that the email address you provided is yours, or that you are authorized to subscribe it. We send the newsletter through Beehiiv. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every issue.

AI-generated content

Headlines and summaries on this site, and headlines in the newsletter, are translated and classified by a large language model (Azure OpenAI). AI output can contain errors. For accuracy, depth, and the full account of any story, follow the source link. We do not warrant that AI-translated headlines or summaries are free of mistakes.

Links to other sites

Every story card links to a third-party publisher. We do not control, endorse, or take responsibility for the content, advertising, or practices of those external sites. Once you click through, the destination’s terms and privacy practices apply.

No warranties

The site is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or accuracy. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or the completeness of any feed.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cerca News and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the site or the newsletter, including loss of data, loss of revenue, or reliance on AI-generated translations or summaries. Your sole remedy if you are dissatisfied with the site is to stop using it.

Operator and governing law

Cerca News is operated as a sole proprietorship based in McAllen, Texas. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of these terms or your use of the site will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Hidalgo County, Texas.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page; continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
