The arrests occurred during a joint operation involving the Navy Secretariat (Semar), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), all part of Mexico's Security Cabinet. According to sources, the five detainees are part of a faction associated with 'La Nueva Empresa' linked to drug trafficking, kidnapping, extortion, and human trafficking from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, to the United States. FGR investigations indicate that the organization primarily used tunnels in this border city to transport migrants irregularly into U.S. territory.

During the physical inspection, agents located and extracted 395 packages of suspected methamphetamine, weighing a combined total of 1,204.82 pounds, equivalent to approximately 546.5 kilograms. 'Our agents continue to have a streak of successes. The efforts of our CBP officers continue to demonstrate significant disruptions to smuggling attempts at our international crossings,' stated Carlos Rodriguez, director of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzaldúa port of entry. CBP reported that both the narcotics and the vehicle were secured. Meanwhile, special agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) have initiated a criminal investigation related to the seizure. Eduardo Rodriguez Jr., a 27-year-old from Brownsville, has been sentenced to 125 months in federal prison for cocaine possession with intent to distribute and money laundering conspiracy. He pleaded guilty on November 5, 2024. The investigation, initiated in January 2024, identified Rodriguez as a major cocaine trafficker smuggling large quantities from Mexico. Law enforcement seized about 24 kilograms of cocaine during a delivery operation in Brownsville on March 1, 2024. Two other individuals involved, Daniel Roldan and Andres Malave III, have also pleaded guilty. Rodriguez will remain in custody until his transfer to a federal prison facility is determined.
