MEXICO CITY – Mexican security forces arrested Iván Cazarín Molina, alias 'El Tanque', in the state of Jalisco. He is identified as a high-ranking operator of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and was close to its deceased leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho,' authorities reported on Tuesday. Omar García Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, stated that 'El Tanque' was considered a regional leader of the CJNG with operations in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco, and Puebla, and was detained in the municipality of Zapopan, in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara. According to investigations by the National Intelligence Center (CNI), Mexican authorities link him to money laundering, fuel theft, drug and arms trafficking, homicides, and vehicle and merchandise theft. Additionally, the government connects him to the May 1, 2015 attack on a Cougar helicopter of the Mexican Air Force during Operation Jalisco, which resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers and a federal agent.
