Massive and sudden floods that struck a border area of Nepal and China on Wednesday have left at least 160 dead and hundreds of tourists, workers, and others missing, in addition to devastating communities and disrupting travel in some regions. Experts indicated that a glacier-triggered avalanche was the likely cause of the disaster. Nepalese police reported at least 157 fatalities. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported that a landslide in Gyirong County, in the Tibet region near the border, resulted in at least three deaths and 265 missing persons. Drone footage showed destroyed roads and buildings buried under a roaring torrent. The state news agency Xinhua reported numerous casualties. Debris hung from tree branches and wires, vehicles were buried, and some stunned survivors were covered in mud. There was little time to escape. 'When I arrived at the Dhunge bazaar, within half an hour, the flood came and damaged the entire market. People were getting ready to go to work at that moment,' said resident Shoyam Rajbhandari. 'We don’t know how many people are missing or dead.'
