Mujeres Unidas accepting volunteer registrations amid surge in hotline calls
· KRGV (NBC 5)
Mujeres Unidas, a McAllen organization dedicated to assisting domestic violence victims, is currently seeking volunteers for training. The group has reported a rise in hotline calls, although fewer individuals are visiting in person. Genesis Gonzalez, the Community Education Program Coordinator, noted that while hotline activity is increasing, overall engagement is down due to various factors, including stalking and immigration threats. Volunteers will receive training from local law enforcement, Child Protective Services, and healthcare professionals to better support those in need.
