Family Sues U.S. Government for Negligence in Renee Good's Death in Minneapolis

· Telemundo McAllen (KTLM)

MINNEAPOLIS — The family of Renee Good filed a lawsuit on Thursday against the U.S. government and several officials, alleging wrongful death, conspiracy, and other alleged violations following the death of the 37-year-old woman at the hands of an immigration agent during a federal operation in Minneapolis. The two lawsuits were filed by Good's partner, Becca Good, and Renee's brother, Brent Ganger. The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment. What happened to Renee Good? Renee Good was shot on January 7, as protests against immigration raids intensified throughout the city. According to Becca Good, her partner stopped their car on a street to support neighbors during an immigration operation. A bystander’s video shows Renee Good in the driver's seat of a red SUV, blocking part of the road and honking repeatedly. Two immigration agents exit a truck, their faces covered, and one orders Good to exit the vehicle. She briefly reverses and then turns the steering wheel as the agent repeats, 'Get out of the car.' At that moment, Becca Good, standing in the street, shouts, 'Drive, love, drive!' An agent in front of the vehicle draws his weapon and fires at the windshield. He jumps back as the car moves away from him. The agent, now very close to the open driver’s side window, fires two more times, killing Renee Good, according to video analysis conducted by The Associated Press and others. At the time, federal officials stated that the agent acted in self-defense and that Good had engaged in 'an act of domestic terrorism.'
