Democratic-controlled states filed another lawsuit on Wednesday to challenge President Donald Trump's executive order aimed at limiting mail-in voting in this year's midterm elections. The action, brought by nearly two dozen states against the Postal Service, marks a new phase in the litigation just two days after the Supreme Court ruled against them in a separate case, without affirming the legality of Trump's order. The majority of the high court determined that the Democratic lawsuit was premature, but that was before the Republican administration issued a rule regulating the Postal Service's delivery of mail-in ballots. Election officials warn that it will be impossible to implement this rule before the first batch of mail-in ballots is sent out next week. 'Across the country, states are already deep into preparations for the 2026 elections. Now, at the last minute, the federal government is trying to interfere with those preparations and potentially threaten the voting rights of countless Americans,' said Letitia James, New York Attorney General and one of the 25 Democratic attorneys general who filed the lawsuit. 'The Postal Service has no authority to decide who can and cannot vote by mail.'
