McALLEN, Texas — A 48-year-old woman was arrested after authorities identified her as the person who allegedly provided the narcotic related to the death of a 39-year-old man in McAllen. Vanessa Denise Rico, whose last known address is in Edinburg, was taken into custody on Wednesday, September 23, under two warrants related to the manufacture or delivery of controlled substances. The investigation began on April 10, 2026, when officers and investigators responded to the 1600 block of Dove Avenue after receiving a report about an unresponsive man. According to the McAllen Police, a forensic examination determined that the death was caused by recent drug use. During the investigation, McAllen Police identified Rico as the person who allegedly provided the controlled substance related to the man's death. Subsequently, police executed a search warrant at Rico's residence in Edinburg. Authorities reported that 1.85 grams of cocaine and packaging equipment were seized during the operation. A McAllen Municipal Court magistrate found probable cause to issue two arrest warrants for Rico. She faces a charge of manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance from Penalty Group 1 that caused serious bodily injury or death, a third-degree felony.
