NEW YORK — Actress Selma Blair is facing federal charges after allegedly biting and assaulting two flight attendants aboard a Delta Airlines flight heading to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, according to police sources. The Port Authority Police Department responded to a call around 11 p.m. on Sunday regarding a passenger who had physically assaulted individuals on a flight from Los Angeles International Airport, a department spokesperson reported. The passenger was identified as 54-year-old Blair. Blair attacked two flight attendants; one had a bite mark and the other suffered a cut, police sources told our sister station NBC New York. The plane was placed under special security measures (or 'internal lockdown'), the sources noted, adding that Blair was restrained in some manner, although no adhesive tape was used. Port Authority police and the FBI intervened when the plane landed at the Queens airport. Blair was arrested on federal assault charges, according to the sources. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital for a medical evaluation, the Port Authority reported. While being transported to the hospital, Blair allegedly assaulted a Port Authority officer by repeatedly kicking her in the head, and also attacked a nurse at Jamaica Hospital, according to police sources. Blair was traveling with a support dog at the time of the incident, the sources said. Her attorney met with her at the hospital and took custody of the animal. One of the flight attendants injured in the attack was taken to the hospital for treatment, the Port Authority reported. No additional information on the flight attendants' injuries was immediately available. The FBI is investigating the incident.
