Life Sentence Without Parole for Murder in McAllen in 2017

· Telemundo McAllen (KTLM)

MCALLEN, Texas – A McAllen man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Nicholas Anthony Bazan, which occurred in 2017, announced Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios. Armando Adrian Arebalo, 37, received the sentence after a Hidalgo County jury found him guilty of Bazan's death. The trial took place in the 370th District Court under the supervision of Judge Noe Gonzalez. According to the Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office, Bazan, 41, was found dead on June 19, 2017, in the 1400 block of Vine Avenue in McAllen. Investigators determined he had an apparent gunshot wound. In August 2017, the McAllen Police Department announced the arrest of Arebalo and others in connection with Bazan's death. "This verdict brings accountability for the death of Nicholas Anthony Bazan after more than nine years of waiting for justice," said Terry Palacios, Hidalgo County District Attorney. The prosecutor noted that no court decision can reverse the loss suffered by the family, but assured that the sentence holds the defendant accountable for his actions. The Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office also expressed gratitude for the work of the McAllen Police Department, investigators, prosecutors, court support staff, and jury members who participated in the case. Prosecutors Jay Garza and Hope Palacios were in charge of the prosecution.
