'Based on the limited information we had at the time, we thought we had been robbed of the cinnamon rolls,' Roll and Dough stated in an Instagram post. 'Uber instructed us to file a police report, so we followed their guidance.' Sunrise Police confirmed that the driver was detained by U.S. Border Patrol in Hollywood while en route to deliver the cinnamon rolls. CBP confirmed the detention in a statement from a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson, reporting the arrest of Ivan Dario Rico Molano. 'On August 22, 2026, at approximately 8:50 a.m., Border Patrol agents stopped a vehicle on I-95 southbound, near Sheridan Street, following a records check on a silver Kia Carnival. It was identified that the registered owner was a foreign national without legal immigration status,' part of the statement read. 'During the encounter, the driver, identified as Ivan Dario Rico Molano, a citizen of Colombia, admitted to being in the United States without legal authorization. Mr. Molano was arrested and transported to the Dania Beach Border Patrol Station for processing. Records indicate he legally entered the United States in May 2021 but overstayed his authorized period of stay,' added the CBP text. The cinnamon rolls were recovered. The driver contacted someone to pick up the vehicle, which contained storage containers with the Roll and Dough cinnamon rolls, police reported. Pierre stated that a relative of the driver found the cinnamon rolls and returned them to the authorities, allowing Roll and Dough to retrieve them. 'Based on what we now know, Iván did not intentionally steal our cinnamon rolls. We sincerely regret describing the situation that way before knowing all the circumstances,' the statement said. 'We shared what we truly understood at that moment, and now that detectives have provided us with new information, we are publicly correcting what occurred.' The business also expressed a desire to donate a portion of its earnings to help the driver's family and cover any legal fees. Pierre also launched a GoFundMe campaign to purchase a transport vehicle and move forward with plans to establish a permanent location for the bakery. The campaign had raised over $4,100 of a $7,000 goal. A screenshot shared by the owner shows that Uber refunded the $110.99 for the trip. Friends and family of the detained individual, Mellanye Baquero, a friend of Iván for over four years, said he had recently moved from Pennsylvania to South Florida. 'He was the hardest worker in the warehouse and the joy of everyone,' Baquero recounted. According to her, Iván dreamed of living in Miami and becoming a personal trainer. His brother is in Florida, and his father lives in Colombia. 'He was there for me and my family when we needed him the most,' she added. Iván remains in ICE custody at the Krome North detention center in Miami. His friends have also started a fundraiser to assist him during his immigration process.
