DPS Investigates Fatal Single-Vehicle Accident in Linn

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fatal accident that occurred around 1 p.m. on Monday, May 11, on US 281 north of FM 1017 in Linn, Hidalgo County. A preliminary investigation revealed that a red Toyota Tacoma, occupied only by a male driver, was traveling south on US 281 when it approached an overpass and, for unknown reasons, veered off the road and onto the median. The driver then overcorrected and collided with a concrete barrier. The truck was launched into the air at the entrance of the overpass and landed in the grassy area on the south side, near the service road of US 281. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Robert Butkiewicz, a resident of McAllen. He died at the scene due to his injuries.
