Spirit Airlines, the low-cost carrier that revolutionized the industry with its provocative ads and deeply discounted fares, announced on Saturday that it is ceasing operations after 34 years. The airline, which operated hundreds of daily flights with its signature bright yellow planes and employed around 17,000 people, stated that it has 'initiated an orderly wind-down of our operations, effective immediately.'
