Colombia Extradites Criminal Alias Araña to the U.S., Alleged Former Peace Negotiator

The Colombian government extradited Geovany Andrés Rojas, alias Araña, to the United States on Friday. Rojas was allegedly a chief peace negotiator for a dissident faction of the former FARC, in an event led by President Abelardo de la Espriella at a military base in Barranquilla. Rojas, the leader of the Comandos de Frontera, a dissident group of the FARC operating in southern Colombia, was transferred from La Picota prison in Bogotá to the Catam military base and then to the Combat Air Command No. 3 in Malambo, in the Barranquilla metropolitan area, where he was handed over to U.S. authorities by the president. In the military hangar, De la Espriella made a statement while Rojas, handcuffed and dressed in typical prisoner attire, was guarded by Interpol agents and armed military personnel. 'This criminal you see here is Giovanni Andrés Rojas, alias Araña,' stated De la Espriella. Araña had been imprisoned in Bogotá since 2025 when he was arrested under an Interpol red notice, and De la Espriella signed his extradition to the U.S. in August along with that of four other members of armed groups who were negotiators during the previous government's peace talks aimed at achieving so-called total peace.
