Rio Grande Valley Cities Open Shelters Due to Flooding

· Telemundo McAllen (KTLM)

Donna announced the opening of a temporary shelter at the Donna Recreation Center, located at 307 Miller Avenue, starting at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The shelter will be available during the nights of Monday and Tuesday and will remain operational as long as necessary to meet community needs. Pets will not be allowed. Weslaco, on the other hand, reported that the First Baptist Church, located at 600 S. Kansas Avenue, has been designated as a temporary shelter for residents affected by the flooding. Residents planning to go to the Weslaco shelter must present valid identification among other requirements. Those needing transportation assistance to the shelter can contact the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) information line at (956) 973-4001. Salinas Funeral Home announced that anyone needing a safe place to leave their vehicle while water levels recede can use their parking lot free of charge. They also stated that there will be no fees, questions, or towing for vehicles parked on the property. This initiative aims to support drivers facing difficulties accessing their neighborhoods or homes due to flooded streets. 2929 W. Expressway 83, Weslaco.
