Cameron County Sends Property Tax Bills and Offers Discounts

· Telemundo McAllen (KTLM)

The Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office announced that the total amount to be collected among the various taxing jurisdictions in Cameron County is approximately $646.7 million. Authorities also reminded that not receiving a bill by mail does not relieve the property owner of their responsibility to pay the corresponding taxes. Discounts for Early Payments Some jurisdictions offer discounts for those who pay their taxes before the deadline. In participating districts, those who pay in October can receive a 3% discount, which decreases to 2% in November and 1% in December. However, no discounts will be offered in January 2027. The deadline to pay the 2026 taxes is January 31, 2027. After February 1, outstanding accounts will be considered delinquent. Where to Make Payments To make payments or check their balance, taxpayers can do so online at cameroncountytx.gov/tac or visit any of the 11 tax offices available in the county, as well as by mail or directly at the county tax offices, among other options. Taxpayers over 65 years old or with disabilities who meet the requirements can also request a quarterly payment plan. Additionally, alternatives are offered for property owners who cannot cover the full amount immediately, including partial payments and payment agreements. For more information, taxpayers can call 956-544-0800.
