DPS searching for driver in deadly hit-and-run motorcycle crash near Elsa

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fatal hit-and-run motorcycle accident that occurred early Thursday near Elsa. The incident took place just before 5 a.m. on FM 88, south of Mile 20 in Hidalgo County. Elias Cruz, a 55-year-old motorcyclist from Edinburg, was riding his Harley-Davidson northbound when he slowed to turn into a private driveway. A gray Dodge Durango, unable to control its speed, collided with Cruz's motorcycle and then fled the scene. Cruz was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. DPS is asking anyone with information about the driver to call 956-565-7600.
