Texas is experiencing a promising dove hunting season this year, with significant spring rains boosting dove populations for the third consecutive year. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) reports that mourning and white-winged dove numbers are near record highs, with an estimated 36.7 million mourning doves and 12.9 million white-winged doves. The season opens early on September 1, a change made after a review of biological data. Hunters are advised to prepare for the heat and ensure they have the necessary licenses.
