STC and McAllen ISD Team Up to Train Next-Gen Vet Techs

· Texas Border Business

South Texas College (STC) and McAllen Independent School District (MISD) have launched the second year of an apprenticeship program aimed at training students for careers in Veterinary Technology. This initiative, which began in August 2022 with 10 seniors, will now include 12 juniors starting this fall. Students will gain hands-on experience at local veterinary clinics while receiving classroom instruction. The program addresses the growing demand for veterinary technicians, especially in light of increased stray animal populations. The collaboration also incorporates large animal care through MISD’s Agricultural Learning Center, enhancing students' practical skills in diverse veterinary settings.
