McAllen Airport to Expand Parking Areas Starting November

· Telemundo McAllen (KTLM)

MCALLEN, Texas – McAllen International Airport (MFE) announced changes to its parking areas that will take effect on November 1, 2026. The expansion includes hundreds of additional spaces and new options for travelers, visitors, and airport employees. Among the changes is a new waiting area for those picking up passengers. In this area, known as the 'cell phone lot,' parking will be allowed for free for up to 30 minutes. An economy parking lot with a daily rate will also be established, along with short-term parking near the terminal and long-term parking. The airport reported that an area for employees and additional spaces to accommodate peak demand periods have also been added. The new spaces will utilize the Tap ‘n Fly system, implemented in 2025, which allows entry and payment for parking without using a physical ticket. According to McAllen officials, the expansion is part of the New Heights project, which includes various infrastructure improvements at the airport. Currently, McAllen International Airport offers direct flights to Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Orlando, Austin, Phoenix, and Monterrey. The changes to the parking areas will begin on November 1.
